Topic: The Miracles of Jesus

“Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!” John 11:43

The purpose of this lesson is to teach that Jesus is the resurrection and the life, and that whoever believes in Him has the hope of eternal life.

Note: Teachers should read John 11:1-45 when studying the lesson.

Duration of the lesson: no more than 5 minutes.

Children

Children, Jesus did many miracles! Today, we will learn about a wonderful miracle that Jesus did in the life of a family He loved very much. Martha, Mary, and Lazarus were siblings and lived in Bethany. One day, Lazarus fell ill. Martha and Mary sent to Jesus saying, “Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick”. John 11:3b

Later, Lazarus died and was laid in a tomb. When Jesus came near Bethany, Martha went out to meet Him and said, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died”. John 11:21. Then Jesus said something wonderful, “I am the resurrection and the life…” John 11:25a.

Then Mary also went to meet Jesus. She and the people who were there were weeping. Jesus loved that family and cared about their grief. The Bible says, “Jesus wept”. John 11:35. Then Jesus went to the tomb where Lazarus was. A large stone blocked the entrance. Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” John 11:39a. They took away the stone. Jesus prayed to the Father and then cried out in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!” John 11:43b. And a great miracle happened! Lazarus came out!

Jesus brought Lazarus back to life! How wonderful! Jesus is powerful! Jesus even has power over death. He Himself said, “I am the resurrection and the life…” John 11:25a. Jesus is life! He wants to give us a wonderful blessing: salvation and eternal life. So, let’s trust in Jesus! When we’re sick, we can pray to God in the name of Jesus. When we receive a blessing, we can say, “Thank you, God!” That way, from a very young age, we learn that God cares for us and that we can trust Him. Jesus is the resurrection and the life!

Parents

Parents, Jesus loved Martha, Mary, and Lazarus and cared deeply for that family. We also can bring our children’s needs before God in prayer and teach them, from a very young age, to trust in Him. But this story also shows us that there is a blessing even greater than those we receive in this life: salvation and eternal life. So, take your children to Sunday School and church services, tell them Bible stories, and pray with them. May our children grow up knowing Jesus, believing in Him, and learning that Jesus is the resurrection and the life.
