Topic: The Miracles of Jesus
“A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean”. Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy.” Matt 8:2,3
The goal is to awaken them to the Lord’s call to a life of sanctification and to lead them to seek forgiveness in Jesus, so that everything that hinders their communion with God may be purified.
Note: When studying the lesson, teachers should read Matt 8:1-4, I Pet 1:13-25 and I Pet 2:1-10.
Introduction
Kids, do you want to please God? Yes! And when do we do something wrong? We need to admit that we’ve made a mistake and ask the Lord for forgiveness. Today we’re going to learn about a man who needed to be cleansed. And what did he do? He went to Jesus! Let’s see what happened.
Development
One day, Jesus came down from a mountain, and a large crowd was following him. Suddenly, a man with leprosy approached Jesus. At that time, that man had to stay apart from other people because of his condition. Imagine how hard it must have been for him! But that man knew who could help him: Jesus! He came close to Jesus, worshiped him, and said: “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” Matt 8:2b. He wanted to be clean!
And do you know what Jesus did? Jesus reached out his hand, touched that man, and said: “I am willing.” And at that very moment, the man was cleansed (Matt 8:3). Jesus had the power to cleanse him! How wonderful! Then Jesus told him to go to the priest and do what the law required. Now he could go home, go to the temple, and be happy. Hallelujah!
So what have we learned? Just as that man needed to be cleansed, we, too, need to have our hearts cleansed of sin. When a child lies, disobeys their parents, watches an inappropriate cartoon on TV, or treats a classmate badly, their heart becomes tainted by sin.
The Bible says: “But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do;” I Pet 1:15. We should please God in the way we live at home, at school, at church, and when we play… Sometimes, a classmate might ask you to do something wrong. What should we do? Say, “No! I want to do what pleases God.”
What about Halloween? In the coming days, you may see Halloween parties — also known as “All Hallows’ Eve.” Maybe a classmate will say, “It’s just for fun!” But we’ve already learned what question we should ask: “Does this please God?” We belong to the Lord, and we want to choose what pleases Him. That’s why we won’t be participating in these parties.
Conclusion
That man needed to be cleansed. And what did he do? He went to Jesus! We, too, need to go to Jesus. When we do something that displeases God, let’s acknowledge our mistake and ask the Lord for forgiveness. May we have the same desire as that man: “Lord, make me clean!” We want to live with a clean heart and be very close to Jesus every day!
