Topic: The Miracles of Jesus
“And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.” Matthew 8:2-3
The purpose of this lesson is to teach the little ones that Jesus forgives us and cleanses us from sin, and that living a holy life means having a heart cleansed of whatever does not please God.
Note: Teachers should read Matthew 8:1-4, I Peter 1:13-25, I Peter 2:1-10.
Duration of the lesson: no more than 5 minutes.
Children
Children, one day, a sick man came to Jesus. At that time, that man had to stay apart from other people because of his illness. Think how hard that must have been for him! But that man knew who could help him: Jesus! He approached Jesus, worshiped Him, and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” Matt 8:2b. He willed to be made clean!
And do you know what Jesus did? Jesus put out His hand, touched the man, and said, “I am willing; be clean.” Matthew 8:3a. And at that very moment, the man was made clean! Who made that man clean? Jesus! Now he could go home, go to the temple, and be happy. Hallelujah!
And what have we learned? Just as that man needed to be made clean, our hearts also need to be clean. Do you know what defiles our hearts? Sin—the things we do that don’t please God. When a child disobeys Mom and Dad, does that please God? No! When they tell a lie? No! When they hit or mistreat a friend? No!
And in the coming days, you’ll see Halloween parties. At these parties, there are costumes of witches, ghosts, and other things. Maybe someone will say, “It’s just for fun!” But we belong to the Lord. That’s why we don’t take part in this celebration—because it goes against what the Word of God teaches (Deut. 18:10–12). We choose to please God. Answer me (the teacher): Whom are we going to please every day of our lives? Jesus. Hallelujah!
Parents
Parents, one of our greatest responsibilities is to help our children, from a very young age, get to know Jesus better. Even though they are still babies, talk to them about Jesus. Take them to services, tell them stories about the miracles Jesus performed, and pray with them. Teach them to stay away from ungodly places and celebrations, such as Halloween, which do not please God and only bring oppression. Through small, everyday actions, show your children how precious it is to know Jesus and to live a life that pleases the Lord.
