Topic: Do you know what salvation means?
“Then He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.“Luke 7:50.
The purpose of the lesson is to show that salvation is a gift from God, which we receive through faith in Jesus, and that whoever loves Jesus desires to be close to Him and do what pleases Him.
Note: Teachers should read Luke 7:36 to 50.
Introduction
Children, this month we are learning about a wonderful thing: salvation! And this month we also celebrate the Feast of Dedication, which is when we dedicate our lives more to the Lord. And today we are going to meet a woman who went to the feet of Jesus. What happened to her?
Development
One day, a man named Simon invited Jesus to eat at his house, and Jesus went. In that city lived a woman who had done many things that did not please God. The Bible does not mention her name. When that woman learned that Jesus was at Simon’s house, she went there with something very special: an alabaster flask with a very fragrant perfume.
Alabaster was a stone used to make small vessels, and inside that flask was a very precious perfume. The woman came close to Jesus and stood at His feet. And do you know what happened? She began to weep. She knew she needed God’s forgiveness. Her tears fell on Jesus’ feet. So she wiped His feet with her hair, kissed them, and smeared that perfume on them. What a beautiful way to show love for Jesus!
But Simon looked at her and thought, “This Man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner.” Luke 7:39b. Simon didn’t say it out loud, but Jesus knew what Simon was thinking. Then Jesus showed Simon that this woman was showing a lot of love. Simon had received Jesus into his home, but this woman was at his feet with a repentant, humble, loving heart.
Then Jesus said, “Your sins are forgiven.” Lk 7:48. What joy! And Jesus said, “Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.” Lk 7:50. See? Jesus said that the woman’s faith saved her. She could not erase what she had done wrong on her own. But she believed in Jesus and went to Him.
The Bible says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith…” Eph 2:8. Do you know what grace means? It’s God giving us a wonderful gift that we can’t buy or get on our own. And what is that gift? Salvation! And we receive that gift by faith in Jesus. To have faith in Jesus is to believe in Him and trust that He is our Savior.
Conclusion
Today we have learned that salvation is a gift from God and we receive it through faith in Jesus. And in this month of the Feast of Dedication, we want to give our hearts more and more to the Lord. We want to say: “Jesus, I want to be close to You! I want to hear Your Word, speak to You in prayer, obey and do what pleases You.”
Suggested Praises: I am a happy child (28); I have many reasons (237); Jesus is our victory (239).
