Topic: Do you know what salvation means?

“Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.'” John 3:3

The purpose of this lesson is to show that God offers us salvation through faith in Jesus and that through the new birth we have a life transformed by the Word of God and directed by the Holy Spirit.

Introduction

Kids, today we are going to learn about a man who knew many things about the Word of God. But when he went to talk to Jesus, he learned something very important! Let’s see what it was?

Development

The Bible tells us about Nicodemus. He was important among the Jews, knew a lot about the Word of God, and taught people. One night he went to talk to Jesus. He knew that Jesus did many miracles and that God was with Him. When he saw Jesus, he said, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.” John 3:2b. Rabbi means “my master.” Then Jesus said to Nicodemus, ““Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3b.

Born again? How is that? Could an adult go back to his Mommy’s belly and be born again? No! Jesus spoke of a new life with God: “…Unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.” John 3:5. Jesus was teaching about the new birth, which happens through the operation of the Holy Spirit. Then Jesus spoke about the wind.

Have you ever felt the wind blowing on your face? We don’t see the wind, but we feel it when it blows! The same is the operation of the Holy Spirit: we don’t see Him, but we feel what He does in our lives. And Jesus also spoke about God’s great love. God loved us so much that He sent Jesus to save us! And we are saved when we believe in Jesus (John 3:16).

Kids, Jesus taught that we need to be born of water and the Spirit. Water speaks to us of God’s Word, which teaches us what is right. And the Holy Spirit helps us obey what we have learned (John 14:26). For example, when Mom asks to put the toys away. Before, the child did not obey. But now the child remembers that God’s Word teaches us to honor Mom and Dad. So, the child obeys with joy! It is the Holy Spirit helping us to please God! We are in the month of the Feast of Dedication! Jesus loved us so much that He gave His life to save us! Let’s give our hearts more to the Lord!

Conclusion

Jesus taught that we need to be born again! We receive salvation through faith in Jesus, and the Holy Spirit gives us new life and helps us remember God’s Word! What great joy! With Jesus, we have a new life! “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation…” 2 Corinthians 5:17a.
