Topic: Do you Know what Salvation means?
“Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God”. John 3:3
The purpose of this lesson is to show that salvation is a gift from God, which we receive through faith in Jesus, and that a heart that loves Jesus desires to be close to Him and to do what pleases Him.
Note: Teachers should read John 3:1-21.
Duration of the lesson: no more than 5 minutes.
Children
Children, the Bible tells us about Nicodemus. He knew the Word of God very well and taught it to others. One night, he went to talk with Jesus. So, he said, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him”. And do you know what Jesus said to Nicodemus? “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God”. John 3:3b.
Born again? What does that mean? How could a grown man go back into his mother’s womb and be born again? No! Jesus was talking about a new life with God! He said, “unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.” John 3:5. Jesus was teaching that we need to be born again through the work of the Word of God and the Holy Spirit!
To help Nicodemus understand, Jesus spoke about the wind. Children, have you ever felt a gentle breeze? (The teacher may gently fan herself with a hand fan.) Look! A gentle breeze is blowing! We can’t see the wind, but we feel it when it blows! The Holy Spirit is the same way. We can’t see Him, but He works in our lives!
When Jesus comes to live in our hearts, the Holy Spirit removes from our hearts everything that does not please God and reminds us of the teachings of the Word of God. The Word of God cleanses our hearts of all evil. What a joy it is to learn the Word of God and to do what pleases God!
Parents
Parents, this teaching shows us that it is not enough to know the Word of God and have a religion. We need to receive salvation through faith in Jesus and live the new life that the Holy Spirit gives us. Therefore, from their earliest years, lead your children to come to know Jesus and accept Him as their Savior. And in this way, they will have a new life, transformed by the Word of God and the work of the Holy Spirit. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation…” 2 Cor. 5:17a.
